About

About House of Prayer.

House of Prayer is a Spirit-filled, Pentecostal church on Canal Street in New Orleans. We’re part of the Assemblies of God, and our life together centers on Jesus, Scripture, and prayer.

What we believe

On Sundays

What to expect when we gather.

Worship and prayer

We sing traditional and contemporary worship music, read Scripture, and pray together. You’ll see lifted hands and hear people praying aloud. Some people jump and dance; others close their eyes and quietly enjoy God’s presence. Together, we turn our attention to Jesus.

The work of the Holy Spirit

We make room for the Holy Spirit to lead and work through His gifts. We pray for healing, deliverance, and miracles, expecting God to move in power and change lives.

Scripture and response

We teach from the Bible, expecting God’s Word to challenge us, strengthen our faith, and shape how we live. We take time to respond through prayer, repentance, and obedience.

Genuine relationships

We take time to talk, laugh, and pray with one another. Whether you’re coming alone or with family, we’d love to meet you and get to know you.

Beyond Sundays

How we practice faith together.

Monthly fasts

At the beginning of each month, we set aside the first Monday through Wednesday to fast and pray together, seeking God and believing for breakthrough.

Power Hour

On the fourth Friday of each month, we go out together to share the gospel and pray with people, expecting the Holy Spirit to demonstrate His power.

Family Fridays

Once a month, we gather simply to enjoy one another’s company, have fun, and build friendships. There’s room for you at the table.

Everyday Life Together

Our relationships extend beyond scheduled gatherings. We share Jesus, study Scripture, pray for one another, and support each other through everyday life—with plenty of laughter and dessert along the way.

Our beliefs

What we believe.

As an Assemblies of God church, we share the faith expressed in its Statement of Fundamental Truths. Here are some of the beliefs at the heart of our life together.

The Bible

The Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. Scripture is our authoritative rule for faith and conduct, revealing who God is and how He calls us to live.

The Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God, equal in deity and glory, sharing one divine nature. He is the Creator of all things and has revealed Himself as our Redeemer.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully human. Born of a virgin, He lived without sin, died for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and reigns at the Father’s right hand.

Salvation

We are saved by God’s grace through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ—not by our own goodness or works. Through His death and resurrection, we receive forgiveness, new life, and adoption into God’s family.

Life in the Spirit

The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, assuring us that we belong to God and helping us follow Jesus. He leads us into truth, strengthens us in weakness, and produces His fruit in our character and relationships.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience distinct from salvation that empowers believers for witness and ministry. Speaking in tongues is its initial physical evidence. The Spirit continues to give spiritual gifts that build up the church and serve others.

The Church

The church is Christ’s body, called to worship God, make disciples, build up believers, and demonstrate His love to the world. Every believer has a part to play in its life and mission.

Baptism & Communion

We practice water baptism by immersion for those who have repented and placed their faith in Jesus, publicly identifying with His death and resurrection. We celebrate Communion in remembrance of His sacrifice and in anticipation of His return.

Divine Healing

We believe divine healing is provided for in Christ’s atoning work and remains part of the church’s ministry. We pray for the sick in faith, expecting God to heal and demonstrate His power today.

Our Future Hope

Jesus Christ will return. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, God’s final judgment, and the new heavens and new earth, where those redeemed by Christ will dwell with God forever.
